Book Review-A Torch Against The Night

Sorry for my lack of posts the last few days, which is probably stupid to apologize for, but I’m having some technology issues with my laptop so that always sucks. What I’m having issues with is my space bar isn’t working, and I could only do it on my touchscreen and that blocks most of my screen, so I’m on a different laptop for the time being. I’m going to try to publish things like every other day, instead of like everyday. Moving onto the side note and onto the review!

This contains spoilers for An Ember in the Ashes so read that before proceeding onto this book.

Book Review-A Torch Against The Night by Sabaa Tahir

Summary: Elias and Laia are running for their lives. After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape…and kill them both.

What I Liked:

This is possibly one of the best sequels I ever read forget Scarlet, Gone Rogue, Crown of Midnight. That’s how freaking wonderful this book truly is. I love how perfect this book is, and hopefully I could summarize it without spoiling everything from this book. I’m just going to summarize, I don’t think I could do the whole paragraph thing without spoiling it.

  • I love Elias and Laia’s relationship throughout this novel and romance
  • The huge amount of World-building in this book and get to see the different areas without being limited in this book.
  • Huge amount of action in this book and everything just fits in perfectly.
  • I love the insight’s to Helene’s character instead of like the last book. She’s not a heartless character!
