I hate classics, especially reading them for school. Any book older than the late 90’s, is literally almost a nope for me-because there is literally nothing I can relate too. It’s such a wonder why I even like reading because of that, but seriously classics are really the worst especially for a teen.
Romeo and Juliet for example is not the worst, but like reading it for English class and translating the very old words will turn anyone off. Yeah, it turned me off quite a bit during freshman year because I hated every second of that English class.
Contemporaries have been more of a hit for me unless it contains a lot of offensive stuff in it. But contemporaries are more modern to what we are living into minus the whole pandemic. And there are so many teens that can relate to contemporaries today than actually reading classics.
Do you like reading Classics and Contemporary? What do you think about Classic versus Contemporary writing stye? What’s your opinion? Tell me in the comments!
